Birkbeck Primary School is a large, two form entry family friendly school and nursery that is located in the heart of Sidcup in Kent. Previously in the building now used by Doreen Bird College in Birkbeck Road, it has been in its present site in Alma Road since the 1960’s.
At the last census there were 470 pupils on roll.
The grounds are well tended and the school has its own playing field which is used by the pupils during the summer. It is used during lunch breaks and playtimes, and for physical education. Altogether there are 14 classrooms in use and a Nursery Class. Further rooms around a central quadrangle have been converted into Key Stage One classrooms as the number of pupils has increased. This quadrangle is a pleasant work and environmental area which includes a small, fenced off pond. In addition we have our own Forset School which is a magical place for children to let their imaginations roam free!
The general environment, close to Sidcup Station, main shopping centres and very near to Waring Park is an excellent resource for practical fieldwork and local studies to support the pupils’ learning via first hand experience and observation. There are two entrances to the school. The Alma Road entrance is open at all times whereas the Faraday Avenue entrance is only opened at the beginning and the end of the day.
We have a very good mix of experienced, accomplished teachers on staff. Specialist teachers and coaches teach Art and Physical Education. The school has a full time business manager and supportive office and premises team.
The school culture is strongly supported by our three values resilience, responsibility and equality which encourages children to be respectful of all people. Children are highly motivated to achieve well and this is reflected in our school motto "Dream... Believe... Achieve.."
The parent community is highly supportive of the school programs with many parents assisting in the classrooms throughout the Literacy and Numeracy sessions. Our School Council and PTA are amazing groups of dedicated people with boundless energy and enthusiasm.
There are places available in Year 4 and Year 5. Please contact the school office to arrange a visit and meet the Head Teacher.
